Why We Started Little Big Humans
We are working parents, four kids under five, and an ongoing attempt to make better family decisions with research, disagreement, and a little humility.
Hi, we’re Tim and Christina.
We’re married with four kids under five: a four-year-old, a two-year-old, and almost one-year old twins. We live in a busy city in the USA and often question our decisions for them. To help, we write down our thoughts. But time is tight for us as working parents. So, we started recording our conversations instead.
We don’t always see eye-to-eye, but we respect each other’s opinions. We try to find common ground and move forward.
Christina here. With a PhD in neurobiology and a background in genetics and pharmacology, I spent years as a senior editor at The Lancet, learning to separate fact from fiction in scientific studies. Now, I work as a software engineer at Amazon, identifying potential problems that could affect data centers that keep the internet running. When making decisions for our kids, I look for what the research says and where the gaps are.
Tim here. I’m a self-taught engineer with a passion for data, analytics, and AI. Raised on a hippie island off Canada’s west coast, I was homeschooled and later worked on behavior change at Thrive Global. I also studied Ashtanga yoga and Eastern philosophy while living in India. My first question is usually: why is this the norm, and should it be? I tend to think and dream big until Christina brings me back to reality.
Little Big Humans is where our two perspectives meet the challenges of family life, like choosing schools, understanding how kids learn, managing screen time, finding time to sleep, and building a flexible life without pretending to be perfect.
Here’s what you can expect from us:
We share our research and provide a public tracker for every claim we make.
We discuss what the evidence can and can’t tell us.
We keep it real – no perfect Instagram posts. You’ll see our spreadsheets, disagreements, and the tools we use to manage our busy lives, including the not-so-glamorous parts.
We’re not experts with all the answers. We’re just two people who think deeply about things in different ways, figuring it out publicly with the help of research and philosophy.
If this sounds like your thing, subscribe to us. We post new episodes and essays every week.
